Greater Duval’s Out East Youth Tutoring and Support Services sponsoring an Arts and Essay contest for children from K-12th grade. The contest is open to children in The Greater Duval Neighborhood of Gainesville only..  With a chance to WIN

 Arts and Essay Contest 2021 

OUR CONTEST OPENS:  June 7, 2021

LAST DAY TO ENTER:   June 18, 2021

  Winners will be announced on June 25, 2021 and prizes presented at the Greateter Duval Garden 2444 NE 12th street, Gainesville Fl. 32641. Winning selections will be posted  here, on outeastyouth.com No later than June 30, 2021 and run for 90 days+.

Monetary prizes will be awarded on June 26, 2021 at our Summer Sling Event for recruitment for our Summer Program  @ Greater Duval Garden 2444 NE 12th Ave.

INCLUDE ON EACH ENTRY: 

 - Student’s name - Address - Phone contact - 2021 grade level - School attended and  Parent’s names.

**Methods of entry differ between the grade levels, make sure your mode of submission matches your child’s grade level.**

Send all entries to greaterduval@gmail.com or call 352-225-5939 to arrange for pickup. **All typed items will be spaced at 1.15 maximum and the largest font size will be 12pts**

       

Contest Categories and Rules:  

**One Winner Per Grade**

K- 1st Grades: To Enter: Have your child submit a drawing or video of them  speaking/rapping/singing an answer of the following question: Prize $25 per grade level

  •  Who was your teacher and what do you like about them?

2nd- 3rd Grades: To Enter: Have your child submit a drawing or video of them speaking/rapping/singing of  their answering of this Question: Prize $35 per grade level 

  • What did you like most about this school year and Why?

 

4th-5th Grades: To Enter: Have your child submit a drawing, video of them singing/spokenword/rappping or writing of 200 words or more of their answering of this Question. Prize $50 per grade level.

  • What have you learned about this virus that is keeping everyone wearing a mask?

6th-7th Grades: To Enter: Have your child submit, in writing, 200 words or more - or a video description of them singing/spokenword/rappping/Poem - or a descriptive drawing illustrating both topics below: Prize $75 per grade level

  • What are some of the changes have you seen in your household since the pandemic?

  • What do you like most about being back to in-person school and Why?

8th Grade: To Enter: Have your child submit in writing 200 words or more - or a video description of them singing/spokenword/rappping/Poem - or a descriptive drawing illustrating both topics below: Prize $75 

  • What are some of the changes have you seen in your household since the pandemic?

  • How can you, yourself be safer and help those around you be safer from the Coronavirus?

9th-10th Grades: To Enter: Submit an Essay of at least (1) page 350 words or more (typed or written) - or a video description of them singing/spokenword/rappping/Poem - or a descriptive drawing illustrating all topics below:

Prize ($100) per grade level

  • How did you first find out about COVID-19, and how did it make you feel?

  • How is being in class better than learning from home?

  • If you could choose at home or school learning which, would you choose and why?

 

11th Grade: To Enter: Submit an Essay of at least 1-1/2 pages 650 words or more (typed or written) - or a video description of them singing/spokenword/rappping/Poem - or a descriptive drawing illustrating all topics below:

Prize $150 

 

  • How did you first find out about COVID-19, and how did it make you feel?

  • What Social issues are most negatively affected by this pandemic and what are some possible solutions to addressing them?

  • Do you think everyone should be vaccinated for COVID-19?

 

12th Grade: To Enter: Submit an Essay of at least 2 pages 1000 words or more (typed or written) - or a video description of them singing/spokenword/rappping/Poem - or  a descriptive drawing illustrating all topics below:

Prize $200.

  • How has the COV-19 affected your graduation plans and end of school year Plans?

  • What Social issues are most negatively affected by this pandemic and what are some possible solutions to addressing them?

  • How do you see/view your future job or college aspirations after graduations?

I am Kyanda and I enjoy watching netflix and being around toddlers. My favorite color is black because it’s a color that everybody overlooks(except me). I love Chicken Alfredo and many other type of pasta. Last but not least, after high school I want to attend college and pursue my dream career as a child psychologist.
